Elected Members and Their Role

At Swannington CofE Primary School, our School Council plays an important role in giving pupils a voice in school life. Each class is represented by elected members who are chosen by their classmates every September.

School Council members gather the views and ideas of their class and share them during meetings. They help to suggest improvements, make decisions, and then report outcomes back to their peers. Through this process, pupils develop leadership skills, responsibility, and confidence, while learning about democracy and teamwork.

Throughout the year, the School Council is actively involved in many aspects of school life and helps make Swannington an even better place to learn.

What Has the School Council Achieved?

In recent years, Swannington’s School Council has:

• Helped decide which after-school and lunchtime clubs should be offered

• Requested and secured additional playground seating for breaktimes

• Supported links with a Leicester City school, promoting understanding of different cultures, traditions, religions, and backgrounds

• Planted trees to improve the school environment

• Helped make the library more welcoming by requesting comfortable seating and cushions

• Chosen new playtime equipment for pupils

• Organised and supported fundraising events for charities such as Children in Need, Hope Against Cancer, Macmillan, and Loros

• Chosen themes for Christmas parties and celebrations

• Welcomed visitors and helped show them around the school

• Organised school competitions, including World Book Day activities and an Easter Egg Orienteering event
