Christian Ethos
Vision and Values
As a Church of England Primary School it is our aim that our school and every member of our school community feels valued and respected and that each person is treated fairly with a fully inclusive philosophy and a clear sense of belonging.
The staff, parents and governors of Swannington C of E Primary School have consulted on our School Values and Vision, and how we live as a Christian School community. We therefore aim:
- To create a positive learning environment where everyone can flourish
- To ensure a sense of belonging and positive relationships with others
- To nurture positive learning attitudes and enjoyment of learning
- To grow young people who care for and respect themselves and others
- To provide a positive culture of success for ALL where children forgive each other
Our school vision underpins all our work:
Belong
John 10:27-30
‘I am safe and secure’
Believe
Mark 9:23
"If you can?" said Jesus.
"Everything is possible for one who believes."
Become
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Our school values are - FRIENDSHIP, ENJOYMENT, RESPECT AND FORGIVENESS.
With the love of God, children, staff and families with or without faith and belief are welcomed and celebrated. Christian values of friendship, enjoyment, respect and forgiveness allow no social or cultural divide so that all flourish and succeed.
Collective Worship at Swannington
Collective Worship is an important part of the school day where we take time to come together and reflect as a whole school community. We hold a daily act of Collective Worship in school which is a time where children can connect with their own inner peace and response to what is being shared and for the whole school community to appreciate the school's distinctively Christian Values in the context of wider Christian Worship.
We believe that Collective Worship should be both meaningful and in keeping with the ethos of the school, promoting spiritual growth and development and the opportunity for quiet reflection and prayer. It plays an important part in affirming and celebrating the beliefs and values of the school community as expressed in our school aims.
Collective Worship should be a special time that is qualitatively different from the rest of the day and may involve communal celebration, reflection or the challenge to think differently. We aim to encourage the involvement of pupils in the planning and presentation of worship.
The school follows an annual calendar of themes linked to the Christian Calendar.
SIAMs
Christian Ethos team
Each year, children can choose to be part of our Christian Ethos team (one of our variety of leadership roles)
They help to develop the Christian Ethos of our school; they do this through planning activities and supporting other pupils.
This year, as part of the Christian value of 'generosity', they have decided to support a local
charity: Bright hope
